U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) today commemorated National 4-H Week by participating in a Georgia 4-H Foundation Board video conference and recognizing three fellow 4-H alumni who are interning in her Senate office this semester.

The Georgia 4-H Foundation received $3,800 from Loeffler earlier this year as part of her commitment to donating her Senate salary each quarter.

"For more than 100 years, 4-H has played a vital role in empowering future leaders from agriculture to industry," said Senator Loeffler. "As a proud alum, one of my fondest memories growing up on my family's farm was showing cattle in 4-H. Through 4-H, I learned life skills and gained confidence that I continue to carry with me today, and I'm thrilled to see so many young Georgians eager to take advantage of such a great program. With over 240,000 4-H'ers in Georgia, I'm proud to have three of them interning in my Senate office this semester. This National 4-H week, I want to thank the Georgia 4-H Foundation for its dedication to helping young Georgians serve their communities and learn lessons that will empower them to lead throughout their lives."

"Kelly Loeffler reminded us again today of the significant role 4-H plays in developing future leaders and the importance of our young people -- particularly young women -- having role models like her to guide the way," said Jay Morgan, Chairman of the Georgia 4-H Foundation.

"It seems like just yesterday I was a shy 5th grader standing at a podium in front of a crowded room at my local 4-H public speaking contest," said Ben Murray, Loeffler intern and former 4-H'er of Nashville, Ga. "From that experience to many others, 4-H has taught me valuable skills such as public speaking, leadership and even some great cooking skills along the way. However, the greatest thing I learned through Georgia 4-H was the importance of diversity and camaraderie with one another. No matter if you are from rural Georgia or metro Atlanta, 4-H has an opportunity for everyone to help make the best better."

"Georgia 4-H transformed my life by contributing greatly to my personal and professional development," said Julie Bacon, Loeffler intern and former 4-H'er of Reidsville, Ga. "Each experience provided an opportunity to learn and acquire new skill sets that enable 4-H'ers like myself to actively pursue their goals. I'm so grateful for my 4-H journey that helped me get to where I am and taught me to encourage not only myself, but others, in the pursuit of happiness and success."
